Student Involvement

Student Involvement serves as an outlet for every student to get connected to all potential meaningful campus involvement and engagement opportunities at West Virginia University. We are committed to providing student-centered activities, educational experiences, and leadership development programs and services. Our hope is to create a transformative co-curricular experience that enhance student life, celebrate diversity, promote self-exploration and better under social responsibility.

Being involved with your campus community will enhance your experience, and with more than 475 student organizations and many other ways to get involved, it's just a matter of choosing HOW to enhance your experience! You can check out all the ways to get involved on WVUEngage, our campus-wide student engagement tool that provides students, faculty, and staff with a direct connection to student organizations, department pages, upcoming events and more!

Why Should I Get Involved?

With classes, schoolwork, work, friends, family, and personal time it can be really hard to find the time to get involved on-campus. What if we told you that getting involved improves all of those areas we listed above. Involvement has been shown to help you:

  • Find your own community at WVU
  • Put your values in action
  • Make new friends
  • Get better grades
  • Build your resume
  • Apply classroom knowledge to real life
  • Challenge yourself
  • Expose yourself to multiculturalism
  • Meet faculty and staff (recommendation letters, advising, mentoring, support)
  • And don’t forget – have fun!

Student Government Association

An amazing way to get involved at WVU is through the Student Government Association. Established in 1920, the Student Government Association of West Virginia University is responsible for representing the needs and concerns of all Mountaineers. Student Government has been responsible for many major projects and initiatives at West Virginia University, including the construction of the Student Recreation Center on the Evansdale campus.

Currently, Chase Riggs and Jaron Bragg are serving as the President and Vice President of SGA, respectively. Amelia Jones is the President Pro Tempore of the Student Assembly.

Student Leadership Development

Leadership Development, as a unit within Student Engagement and Leadership, will provide students with leadership skill development opportunities through individual programs, retreats, and experiential learning. These students will develop lifelong leadership skills that can be utilized within diverse educational, social, and business settings. The experiences students gain through our leadership programs will influence the campus socially and culturally.
